Development consultancy for a new shopping centre in Hereford – Old Market

Client: British Land and Stanhope
Comprehensive development consultancy and pre-leasing of a town centre shopping centre.
Hereford Old Market

The Brief

Our involvement in this open-air shopping centre started in 2012 when we provided development consultancy advice to Stanhope and British Land on the former Cattle Market in the heart of Hereford town centre. The development totalled 310,000 sq ft including a 83,000 sq ft pre let to Debenhams and a 23,000 sq ft Waitrose.

The Result

Old Market, Hereford opened in 2014 with key anchors of Waitrose, Debenhams and Odeon cinema. The centre consisted of a large surface car park of 600+ spaces fronting onto the retail and supermarket. Sitting alongside the cinema there were 8 restaurant units which were let to the likes of Miller & Carter, Wagamama and Nandos.

Key retailers on opening included H&M, River Island, TK Maxx, Tiger, Next and Clarks. The opening of the centre repositioned the retail pitch of the town centre and proved to be a successful new retail destination pulling in a wider shopping catchment. The car park is also a dominant car park in the town centre.
